Asbestos Drywall and Joint Compound Removal in Dallas

Typical cost in Dallas

  • One wall or a few small openings, under 100 sq ft$1,000 – $2,600+
  • One room of walls, about 350–450 sq ft$2,600 – $6,100+
  • Walls and ceilings of a whole house, about 1,500 sq ft$13,000 – $35,000+

A remodel that opens a wall, moves a doorway or strips a room to the studs disturbs more than drywall. We test and, where needed, remove the compound, tape, texture and old plaster in Dallas homes. EPA's list of possible asbestos sources includes patching compounds used on walls, so the mud on the seams is sampled along with the board.

The aim is to clear only the walls you are changing and leave the rest of the house alone. That holds in Highland Park and Mesquite too.

Wall work we handle

Walls coming out in a remodel

Planning to open a wall? Every coat of paint, patch and plaster on it gets sampled first, and removal is finished before framing and wiring begin. You can limit abatement to the wall that comes down or extend it to the surrounding surfaces that will be patched.

Seams, tape and patches

Compound, tape and old repairs are separate layers on the board. A small job, say a new outlet or a pipe chase, may need only a handful of samples and one sealed work area.

Older plaster walls

Roughly 56,900 Dallas homes predate 1950, and a house that age can have plaster in some rooms and drywall in others after later additions. Every wall finish is sampled on its own, so you learn exactly what sits behind the paint.

Textured walls

Sprayed or troweled wall texture is tested the way a ceiling is. A negative result means a drywall finisher can skim or replace it. A positive one comes off wet inside containment before the finishers arrive.

Before the next trade starts

Order matters on a remodel. Testing goes first and removal second, with demolition, wiring and drywall following. Skipping the first step means finding out what is in the wall after the demolition has started.

You get the lab report and the disposal record, so the next contractor and any later buyer can see what was done.

Frequently asked questions

Can joint compound contain asbestos?

EPA names patching compounds used on walls and ceilings as possible sources. Only a lab test of a sample tells you whether yours is one.

I am only cutting a small opening. Do I still need to test?

A small opening still disturbs the same layers as a large one, just fewer of them. A few samples keep the job small and keep dust out of your rooms.

What does wall abatement cost?

A hallway wall and a whole floor of walls are priced differently. Height, finish, empty or furnished rooms, containment, lab results and disposal all play a part.

Texture overhead is a separate material, and Popcorn ceiling removal explains how it is handled; the rest of our work sits on the Dallas Asbestos Removal homepage.
