Asbestos Floor Tile and Sheet Vinyl Removal in Dallas

Typical cost in Dallas

  • One bathroom or laundry floor, up to about 100 sq ft$900 – $2,500+
  • Kitchen floor, about 200–300 sq ft$1,500 – $4,000+
  • Several rooms of flooring, about 1,000 sq ft$4,000 – $10,000+

Old vinyl tile, sheet vinyl and the adhesive beneath them are what we test and remove in Dallas houses and apartments. EPA names vinyl floor tiles, sheet flooring backing and floor adhesives as possible asbestos sources, so a sample comes before the first tile is lifted.

New tile, plank flooring or polished concrete all start the same way, by clearing the old layers first. We work across Dallas, Highland Park and Mesquite.

Flooring jobs

Tile and black adhesive

Tile and the glue under it are separate materials, so each gets a sample. On a slab, tile is bonded straight to the concrete, which makes the adhesive a large part of the job.

Sheet vinyl and its backing

On sheet flooring the backing counts too, the paper or felt layer you see once the top is lifted. We sample it before the sheet is pulled or cut.

Layers under carpet or newer floors

A kitchen or hallway can hold two or three floors stacked together. Pulling the top one disturbs whatever lies beneath, so every layer is sampled first.

Kitchens, baths and laundry rooms

Small rooms mean tight containment beside rooms you still use. We seal the doorway, clear the floor and finish before the plumber or cabinet installer walks in.

How we keep dust down

EPA says never to sand a floor that may contain asbestos or to take a power stripper to it, and we follow that. Positive flooring comes up in pieces while kept wet, and the pieces go straight into sealed bags.

In a house, the heating and air conditioning serving the area stay off during the work.

Frequently asked questions

Can I just lay new flooring over old tile?

Often that is fine if the old floor is sound. DSHS notes that homeowners usually have no need to act on asbestos that stays untouched. A sample first tells you what the new floor will cover.

Can I scrape up the old glue myself?

Please do not. EPA advises against scraping, sanding or sweeping anything that may contain asbestos. Test it, and if it is positive, call a trained crew.

What does floor abatement cost?

A kitchen floor costs less than a whole ground floor, and tile glued to a slab takes more effort than a floor laid over plywood. Extra layers, containment, lab results and disposal add to the total.

If the remodel also opens walls, see Drywall, plaster and joint compound for how those layers are sampled. The Dallas Asbestos Removal homepage links all other pages.
